For hiking enthusiasts, the Cathedral Rock Trail offers a moderately challenging trek with stunning vistas that attract visitors year-round. In fact, Sedona sees over 4.5 million visitors annually, showcasing its popularity as a getaway destination.

Jerome: A Historic Ghost Town

If you do the Dolly Steamboat, try the sunset cruise—it’s magical watching the desert glow. On the way back, stop in Tortilla Flat for a burger surrounded by quirky Wild West décor—it’s such a fun little spot. Nearby hiking trails in Tonto National Forest invite exploration of the desert terrain and wildlife, including the chance to spot deer, coyotes, and diverse bird species.

Superstition Mountains: A Hiker's Dream

Don't forget to stop in at the Windmill Winery, just outside of town for a sip on their patio—or the Irish Cowboy downtown for some great Irish grub and a cold beer!

About an hour from San Tan Valley, the mining town of Superior makes for a lovely day trip filled with history, nature, and small-town charm. The star attraction here is Boyce Thompson Arboretum, Arizona’s oldest and largest botanical garden. Spread across 343 acres, the arboretum showcases plants from deserts around the world, winding trails, and breathtaking views of Picketpost Mountain. It’s the perfect spot for a scenic stroll, birdwatching, or snapping photos of rare desert blooms. Have you ever seen a Coati? If you're lucky, you'll spot one of these little creatures that looks like a mix between a monkey and a raccoon—super fun!
